Larry Norman April 8 1947 to Feb 24 2008

He was lead singer of the group People! (1965/66) and in 1968 recorded "I Love You" recover of The Zombies "I love you" that made in number 14 on the billboards. And first band to do a Rock Opera Called "Epic".

He left People! in 1969 due to a split over scientology. Larry Norman and Mason left the band because the band required them to be members of scientology and they wouldn't do it and Larry Norman wanted their first album to be name "We Need A Whole Lot More of Jesus, and a Lot Less Rock and Roll" but record company named it I Love You instead.

He began a bible study for rock musician and actors struggling with drugs in which Bob Dylan attended and actually produced 3 albums "Slow Train Coming", "Saved", and "Shot of Love" that may have been influenced by Larry Normans first solo album "Only Visiting this Planet" and/or the bible studies.

You can check out some of Bob Dylans gospel songs here and click on the albums "Saved" "Slow train coming" and "Shot of Love" and if you don't have the time to check out them all, check out at least Saved. I also found the lyric from his song "Gonna Change My Way of Thinking" that reads, "He said, "He who is not for Me is against Me," Just so you know where He's coming from." A definite paradigm shift in thinking. No neutrality allowed!!!

The Pixies Francis Black was highly influenced by Larry Norman even naming an album after him called "Come on Pilgrim" and then later did some concerts together. The Pixies are the band that highly influence Nirvana according to Kurt Cobain lead singer.

I found some video clips to get a flavour of his message and music. You will notice that these are not at all very good clips and also you will notice as he got older his voice became a little stranger. He had an airplane accident and lost his voice at some period for I think 12 years I read somewhere which he recovered after that time and also had like 3 heart attacks. So keep that in mind as you check out some of the later stuff.

For Simpson fans he was actually included in a Simpson comic of somesort. This was the only thing I could find from it though.

And if you just type in Larry Norman on You Tub there will be plenty more.
